100% Combed Upland Cotton
Originally named, American Upland, but now it is commonly known as Upland Cotton. It is grown in many countries, including Australia. Its average staple length is anywhere between 26 – 32 millimetres. In its natural state, it is usually a light cream to off-white colour. This variety of Cotton can come as combed or carded quality, it can also be ringspun or open- ended.
100% Combed Egyptian Cotton
Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton grown in Egypt is classified as Egyptian cotton. It’s minimum staple length is 34.925 millimetres, which is significantly longer than traditional varieties of other cottons available. The extra length of the fibre makes it possible to make the finest of yarns without sacrificing the strength of the yarn.Its ability to absorb liquids gives fabrics made of Egyptian cotton deeper, brighter and more resistant colours. Egyptian cotton is hand picked which guarantees the highest levels of purity. In addition, hand picking puts less stress on the fibres. This variety of cotton is almost always combed and Ring-spun.
100% Combed Pima Cotton
Pima cotton is another cotton variety with has an ELS, it originated in Peru. It is a hybrid of Upland and Sea Island cotton. It is grown primarily in the USA, Australia and Peru. Known for is longer and stronger fibre, it can be spun into higher count yarns for the highest quality of product. A major downside with Pima cotton is that it is very costly to produce and process.
