Bedding myths that need to be put to bed

Posted by The Canningvale Team on 1st Dec 2021

When it comes to getting the best sleep possible, there are some fairy tales we need to unravel 👸 🧶

Snow White: bleach is good for white sheets

Bleach degrades the fibres of your linen and shortens their lifespan. To keep sheets (of any colour) as perfectly preserved as Snow White in her gilded coffin, you should:

  • Cold wash your sheets
  • Use the gentle cycle
  • Add ¼ cup of baking soda to your natural dishwashing liquid (use only ½ the recommended dose)
  • Add ½ a cup of vinegar to your rinse cycle
  • Sun dry

Sleeping Beauty: good bedding stays beautiful forever

Sleeping Beauty kept her looks while she slept for 100 years, but her bedding did not. To keep your bedding beautiful, you need to change your linen every 2 years.

But please don’t throw it away! Donate it to animal shelters or repurpose it as rags, pet beds and even in kid’s craft projects – be creative!

The Prince and the Pauper: higher thread counts equate to better-quality linen

Thread count (TC) is the number of threads per 10 square cm of fabric and is often considered an indicator of quality. It’s important to consider, but the quality of the threads and the material are what’s crucial. Some manufacturers add extra threads to poor-quality sheets to increase the TC, meaning they’re a pauper in princely disguise.

Confused? Don’t be! Have a look at our product descriptions to discover the best-quality linen for you. They’ll help you find your perfect match, whether you’re searching for softer, cooler, or more breathable bedding.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears: hard mattresses are better for bad backs

If like Goldilocks you’re searching for a bed that’s just right, your first priority should be looking for a mattress that caters to your body. Super-hard mattresses can add too much pressure, putting your body out of alignment.

We offer memory foam mattresses that work to support your body type. They relieve pressure, are breathable, and are incredibly comfortable for everybody. They also have a 10-year warranty, free shipping, and free returns if you’re not completely satisfied.

The Princess and the Pea: you don't need to clean your mattress if it has a mattress protector

Remember how the princess in this story couldn’t sleep because of the pea hidden beneath her mattress? Well we’re sorry to tell you that you’re probably sleeping on a lot worse. If you don’t have a mattress protector, you could be sleeping on dust mites and other nasties that are detrimental to your health. Clean your mattress every six months by vacuuming it, spot cleaning with stain remover, sprinkling it with bicarb soda, then re-vacuuming.
